Team Oliver Racing has become the first British Truck Racing team to compete using the latest smart monitoring technology from ODYSSEY® Battery as the father-son duo marks 10 years of collaboration with the high-performance brand.
Throughout the 2026 British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) season, Stuart and Michael Oliver will use the ODYSSEY® Connect battery monitoring system to access real-time data on battery health and performance. By pairing with this innovative technology, ODYSSEY® Connect enabled batteries give the team a competitive edge by allowing them to flag any potential concerns via a smartphone app.
During Team Oliver’s long-standing collaboration with ODYSSEY® Battery, 10-time British Truck Racing Champion Stuart Oliver has remained one of the most successful competitors in BTRC history. The team has had a strong start to the season Stuart Oliver took two race wins in the opening round at Brands Hatch and Michael Oliver secured three podium finishes. The team backed that up with a dominant Race One victory and four further podium finishes for Stuart and Michael at Thruxton in May, despite challenging weather conditions.
Christopher Thomas, Vice President of Global Marketing & Commercial Operations at EnerSys®, manufacturer of ODYSSEY® batteries, said: “Reaching 10 years of collaboration with Team Oliver Racing is a milestone we’re proud to celebrate, but we’re most excited about bringing the ODYSSEY® Connect battery monitoring system to the British Truck Racing Championship for the first time.
“Engineering innovation has always been at the core of the ODYSSEY® Battery brand and we’re looking forward to powering Team Oliver Racing through the 2026 season with cutting-edge battery technology and a monitoring system that meets the demands of the sport, as well as the wider transportation industry.”
Stuart Oliver said: “We’re thrilled to have had the continued support of ODYSSEY® Battery and this season looks set to be the most exciting yet as we use the ODYSSEY® Connect system for the first time. Being able to monitor our battery health in real-time gives us another layer of confidence, bringing a new dimension to our race preparation. This technology could make a real difference on race days. We’re delighted to be the first to use it in the BTRC.”
Originally developed for military and aerospace, ODYSSEY® batteries are engineered with AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) TPPL (Thin Plate Pure Lead) design, using 99% pure lead plates. They are thinner than the alloy plates in conventional batteries, allowing more to fit into each unit. This means ODYSSEY® batteries provide up to twice the power output of a conventional battery of the same size and can withstand vibration damage and high impact shock.
Paired with the ODYSSEY® Connect system, teams and technicians can monitor battery condition, state of charge and overall health in real-time using a smartphone app. In the high pressure environment of professional truck racing, where vehicles weigh in at over five tonnes each and battery reliability is critical, this data could prove decisive.
The technology used by Team Oliver Racing is also available to commercial fleet operators who are starting to adopt smart battery management to reduce vehicle breakdowns and unplanned downtime.
With the first rounds at Brands Hatch, Thruxton and Pembrey already behind them, Team Oliver Racing will be competing at Snetterton (July 11–12) and Donington Park (August 8–9) before heading to the Le Mans Bugatti circuit (September 26–27) and the season finale at Brands Hatch (October 31–November 1).
ODYSSEY® batteries are manufactured by EnerSys, which has over 125 years of battery expertise and more than 32 facilities worldwide including UK operations in Newport and Culham. The premium battery brand also sponsors Team BRIT, who recently became the first team with an all-disabled driver line-up to win a GT3 race, as well as motorcycle racing team Intact GP, and off-road racing squad Gigglepin.
